The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to provide wet laboratory technical assistance in carrying out various research projects. Conducts basic statistical analysis and aids in manuscript preparation and submission. Records and evaluates data in accordance with methods requested. Impacts laboratory research activities.

Key Functions/job specific competencies

  • Perform technical laboratory duties, techniques, in vivo and in vitro experiments studying cancer biology in the context of cancer therapies and response to treatments including radiotherapy
  • Projects will include using mouse tumor models to assess effects of cancer therapy; small animal image-guided radiotherapy; tissue harvesting and microscopy; in vivo and ex vivo biological assays; implementation/development of novel protocols and procedures; execution of experiments; analysis of resultsResponsible for sample processing and storage, including DNA and RNA extractions.
  • With supervision will perform histology, animal husbandry, in vivo surgical techniques, flow cytometry, immune and proteomic or transcriptomic assays is preferred. Ideal candidates would possess experience in molecular biology, cell culture, and animal models of human cancer
  • Responsible for development and meticulous upkeep of databases of patient and clinical data, in addition to sample organization and processing data and sequencing data.
  • Responsible for assisting with patient sample collection in Radiation Oncology clinic, coordination and transport to Laboratory.
  • Assist in the preparation and submission of manuscripts, protocols, and other documents.
  • Perform laboratory maintenance such as maintaining/cleaning equipment, organizing repair procedures, maintain lab stocks, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
  • Help orient and train new staff or students
  • Other duties may also be assigned as needed

EducationRequired: Bachelor's degree with major course work one of the basic sciences.

Preferred: Bachelor's degree in a quantitative science such as Biostatistics, Bioinformatics or a basic science with statistical coursework, including public health related. Preferred: Master's degree in a quantitative science, such as Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Epidemiology, or a Master's of Public Health.

Experience

Required: None

Preferred: Basic laboratory skills, and experience in statistical software including R, SAS and/ or Python. Preferred: Experience with molecular biology, microbiology and/or immunology.
