DC Scholars Public Charter School was founded in 2012 and opened with grades PS-3. Today, DC Scholars Public Charter School serves approximately 500 students in Preschool - 8th grade. The Human Resources Generalist (Recruiter) will work closely under the direction of the Director of Human Resources to provide generalist support to the human resources function with a primary focus on talent acquisition and retention . Essential to the role is creating the pathway by which DC Scholars Public Charter School identifies, attracts, supports, and retains talented people. They will be responsible for ensuring DCSPCS's recruitment practices are creative and thorough, and model our core values, and that the organization's retention practices truly support and ensure new staff members start strong with the resources they need to thrive and succeed as members of the DCSPCS team. They will serve as backup support for payroll administration and the maintenance of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS). In addition, the HRG will partner with other members of the HR team on a variety of human resources programs, often encompassing several functional areas of human resources including employee relations; compliance; training; learning and development; and policy development and implementation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the mission of DC Scholars by focusing on acquiring the best candidates for employment from traditional and unexpected sources, and working with hiring managers to coordinate and facilitate all functions related to recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and retention.
  • Responsible for the full-cycle recruiting and selection process for searches beginning with an initial meeting with the hiring manager through the initial first year of employment. Drives, tracks, monitors, and evaluates candidate activity and experience from initial resume submittal to hiring. Identify in timely ways when a plan needs to be adjusted to address unexpected issues.
  • Prepares recruiting activity reports as well as broader statistics about recruiting and retention processes and deliverables that will help the Director of Human Resources to continuously monitor and, when necessary, improve practices in recruitment and retention.
  • Work closely with the management team to understand staffing needs, identify critical skill sets, develop recruitment plans, and establish hiring goals to meet the demand for academic achievement.
  • Provides oversight for the management of the onboarding process of each new hire recruited including coordinating the scheduling of orientation and providing the Dir. of Human Resources the tools and support to prepare the new hire's onboarding training and skills development program to ensure a smooth transition into the organization.
  • Serves as a backup to the Human Resources Analyst in practices and procedures that ensure timely processing and administration of payroll and the maintenance of the ADP HRIS system.
  • Cross-trained and cross-trains with human resources (HR) colleagues on other HR processes, programs, and functions in order to contribute as a Generalist for the department. Works cooperatively with other HR staff members to support other HR functions as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or related field. SHRM certification or equivalent qualification in Talent Acquisition is preferred.
  • 3-5 years of progressive human resources experience, with a minimum of 2-3 years recruiting
  • Must have previous experience and/or knowledge of the unique primary and secondary education environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint,
  • Experience using and maintaining both ATS and HRIS platforms.
  • Keen attention to detail and follow-through required.
  • Excellent analytic, oral, and written communication skills required
  • Capacity to handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of proactive recruitment strategies and best practices in employee retention.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, stakeholders, and applicants. Skilled insight into potential candidates' abilities, motivations, and fit.
  • Proven ability to assess priorities and manage a variety of complex activities simultaneously and professionally.
  • Exceptional time management and quality control skills that ensure accurate and timely delivery of work products.
