Job Description

Job Summary:
This hybrid role is designed for a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) who will initially begin in the Front Office to develop a foundational understanding of patient-facing workflows, communication, and administrative support. After a training and transition period, the employee will assume the primary role of CMA in our Salem office with back up coverage of the front office. The CMA will also serve as a float to provide occasional coverage at other Valley Clinics locations as needed. This role plays a key part in supporting patient care delivery, clinic operations, and continuity across teams.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Front Office Responsibilities:

  • Professionally greet and welcome patients and visitors in person and on the telephone.
  • Schedule appointments for providers to optimize patient satisfaction and clinic efficiency.
  • Answer, screen, and direct incoming calls and relay messages to clinical staff.
  • Check patients in and out, verify insurance, and collect copays or account balances.
  • Ensure completion of patient paperwork prior to appointments.
  • Track no-show patients, missed appointments, and send reminders.
  • Scan documents and maintain accurate digital records.
  • Provide general administrative support to the office 

CMA Responsibilities:

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and obtain vital signs including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure, weight, height, and oxygen saturation.
  • Document patient histories, assessment data, and provider communications in the EMR.
  • Prepare patients for exams, administer immunizations and medications under supervision.
  • Perform delegated procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, ear irrigation, PFTs, etc.
  • Collect and label specimens (e.g., urine, sputum), and coordinate processing with lab and billing.
  • Monitor and report abnormal findings and changes in patient condition.
  • Maintain infection control practices and ensure exam rooms are properly sanitized and stocked.
  • Assist patients with mobility needs, using appropriate safety techniques.
  • Coordinate prescription refills, patient messages, and follow-up workflows as delegated.
  • Participate in transitional care activities including post-hospital or ED discharge follow-up.
  • Assist in coordinating care for patients entering hospice or palliative services.
  • Float to other clinic locations for occasional coverage as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

     

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Willingness and ability to contribute to a positive team environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and remain flexible across settings.
  • Understanding of HIPAA and infection control guidelines.
  • Proficient in EMR usage and documentation.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant by the AAMA or equivalent organization required.
  • Current certification in CPR and First Aid required.
  • Prior experience in either a clinical or medical office front desk setting is preferred.

     

Physical Requirements:

  • This is an in-person role; remote work is not possible.
  • Must be able to assist patients with mobility needs and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and computer use.

     
Occasional travel to other clinic locations required.

The expected pay rate for this role is: $18-$24

Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday-7:30am-5:00pm (Wednesday and weekends off)
